We are a few weeks into the new year, and it has been a bit of a change for me. For the last three and a half years I attended university full-time, and because of my G.I. Bill benefits, didn't have to go to work while I was doing it. I could concentrate strictly on school. In December, I graduated with my BA in Communications and Media Technology from the Academy of Art University.
During my Summer term I was recruited to intern at Jam Street Media, a startup podcast production company ran by a former iHeartRadio exec, to handle their marketing and communications. I built their website, launched and managed their social media, and wrote blogs and newsletters on a weekly basis. While my internship ended in December, I was asked to stay on part-time and continue my work with them.
Only working part-time has allowed to take on other projects as well doing graphic design work and building more websites.
Up until this point of my life I've always had normal, full-time work with a steady paycheck. Now that I'm freelancing, I have to not only do the work that I have, but also continuously hone my skills and market myself. Not a bad thing at all. Keeps me hungry and motivated.
I'm looking forward to see where this year takes me.
